Our family comes from Sombrerete, a small town in Zacatecas, Mexico, where Gonzalo Sr. grew up raising corn and beans. Working the land taught him to pay attention—to soil, water, weather, seasons, and the small signs that show what plants need. It shaped a patient, resourceful approach and a deep respect for the work that happens below the surface.
After coming to Austin, he spent 18 years on crews clearing and pruning trees around power lines, including work associated with the City of Austin. The job demanded safety, sound judgment, and careful tree work around homes and essential infrastructure. It also deepened his knowledge of how Central Texas trees respond to heat, drought, storms, and repeated pruning.
Gonzalo Sr. later started Gonzalo Landscape and Tree Care, bringing together his farming roots, utility tree-work experience, and knowledge earned property by property across Central Texas. Today, we approach every yard with close attention, practical recommendations, and pride in leaving it better than we found it.
